"Semi-Colon" by Barbara Mallonee

"Semi-Colon" is a well written plea for the semi-colon.  Perhaps most compelling of the essay is the author's impeccable flow and syntax using semi-colons, and interestingly related quotes with semi-colons.  She believes that the semi-colon has sadly fallen out of use, and believes that if it were to be better utilized perhaps her students would be better writers.

  2. I love semi-colons; I can confidently say they are my favorite punctuation mark. I'll definitely be reading this one.

  3. I LOVE SEMI COLONS TOO!
I wrote a paper for my sign language class last semester, and obviously used semi-colons because that's just my style. In those particular sentences, the instructor left comments saying that the structure was TOO CONFUSING-- and then she DOCKED POINTS! I was so, so mad. Like, come on now. It's a semi-colon, not a calculus problem. I will definitely check out that essay.

    1. Semi-colons could not be less confusing... you're instructor was unjust. No such thing as an overused semi-colon.

  4. Count me in as someone who is going to check this one out. I have to defend my semi-colon love every time I ask my girlfriend to edit an essay for me; this should provide me with ample ammunition for the next debate.

  5. Solid. Give me some text as an example of her delightful syntax.

P.S. Patrick's girlfriend again emerging as an intriguing literary character.
